FRSC Reports 46 Deaths, 346 Injuries in Gombe Road Accidents

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Gombe State has reported that 46 people lost their lives in 77 road crashes recorded between January and March 2026.

Sector Commander of the FRSC in the state, Mr Samson Kaura, disclosed this in an interview in Gombe on Monday.

He added that 346 persons sustained various degrees of injuries during the same period, while 179 others escaped without harm.

Kaura noted that when compared with the same period in 2025, there was a decline in the number of crashes, as 107 incidents were recorded in 2025 against 77 in 2026.

However, he pointed out that despite the reduction in crash numbers, fatalities increased in 2026, with 46 deaths recorded compared to 35 in the previous year.

He attributed the higher death toll in the first quarter of 2026 to increased travel activity in January.

According to him, January alone accounted for 36 deaths, while February recorded four and March six fatalities.

He explained that investigations showed that speeding, overloading, tyre bursts, and dangerous driving were the major causes of the crashes within the period under review.

Kaura urged motorists in the state to strictly obey traffic regulations and prioritise the safety of both themselves and their passengers.
