The Katsina State Police Command has detained a suspected motorcycle thief alongside another individual accused of attempting to obstruct an ongoing investigation through bribery.
This was disclosed in a statement issued in Katsina by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu.
He said operatives of the Anti-Kauraye unit arrested a 27-year-old suspect, popularly known as “Dukiya,” following intelligence linking him to the theft of a motorcycle belonging to Isma’il Ibrahim.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly worked with an accomplice identified as Abba, who is currently at large.
The police further stated that the stolen motorcycle was recovered, along with a master key believed to have been used in executing the theft.
Efforts, according to the Command, are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and ensure all those involved are brought to justice.
In a related development, a 45-year-old man was also taken into custody for allegedly offering ₦243,000 to investigators in an attempt to influence the release of the detained suspect.
The officers reportedly rejected the bribe and documented the cash as evidence.
The Command confirmed that the suspect linked to the bribery attempt remains in custody and will be prosecuted for offering inducement to public officers, an offence under the Penal Code Law.
