The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Cross River State has uncovered and destroyed a large cannabis plantation covering about eight hectares in Uyanga community, Akamkpa Local Government Area.
This was contained in a statement issued in Calabar by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sebastian Lebo.
According to the report, operatives of the agency, supported by personnel of the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, also recovered 170 kilogrammes of processed cannabis from the site during the operation.
The latest raid came just days after a similar crackdown in Uwet community, also in Akamkpa LGA, where another illicit farm was discovered.
In that earlier operation, about six hectares of cannabis farmland were destroyed, with approximately 15 tonnes of the substance eliminated and 119 kilogrammes of already processed cannabis seized.
The State Commander, John Anteyi, praised the combined efforts of the NDLEA operatives and military personnel involved in the operations, describing their actions as courageous and effective.
He reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to sustain its anti-narcotics campaign under the leadership of its Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), with a continued focus on reducing illicit drug activities across the country.
The agency restated its commitment to intensifying operations aimed at curbing drug cultivation and distribution in affected communities.
