A 38-year-old man, Musbahu Rabiu, has been brought before a Sharia court in Kano over allegations of criminal breach of trust, cheating, and mischief.
Rabiu, who resides in Rijiyar Lemon Quarters, Kano, is facing a three-count charge but denied all allegations when they were read to him.
During proceedings, the prosecution counsel, Aisha Digol, informed the court that the case was reported at the Fagge Police Station on April 13 by Bello Magaji of Bakori Local Government Area.
It was alleged that the defendant was given provisions valued at ₦1.7 million to sell on behalf of the complainant but failed to remit the proceeds or provide a satisfactory explanation when asked to account for the funds.
The prosecution further stated that repeated attempts by the complainant to recover the money were unsuccessful.
The charges are said to contravene Sections 202 and 206 of the Penal Code.
Presiding Judge, Malam Mustapha Ashiru, ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Goron Dutse Correctional Centre pending further hearing.
The matter was adjourned until June 2 for continuation of trial.
