Rakiya Yusuf, Director of the Payment System Supervision Department at the Central Bank of Nigeria, has expressed readiness to support Nigeria’s plan to host the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT).
Yusuf made the commitment during a courtesy visit by Lami Ahmed, President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), and her delegation on Tuesday in Abuja.
She thanked the association for the surprise recognition and her appointment as an AACT Ambassador, describing it as an honour and a responsibility she is willing to uphold.
Yusuf pledged to contribute to efforts aimed at ensuring Nigeria successfully hosts the continental tournament.
She also reiterated the Central Bank’s willingness to work with relevant stakeholders, noting that steps would be taken to facilitate a meeting between LGAN and the CBN Governor.
According to her, the Governor has consistently promoted collaboration, as reflected in progress made in monetary policy, payment systems, and the ease of doing business.
Yusuf further informed the delegation about the existence of the CBN Golf Association and introduced its captain, Sunkanmi Aroyehun, who was present at the meeting.
Aroyehun praised the recognition, describing Yusuf as a dedicated member and a strong supporter of golf development.
He said her selection as an ambassador was well deserved, citing her consistent contributions to the growth of the sport.
Earlier, Ahmed noted that the AACT serves as a platform to promote women’s golf and elevate Nigeria’s presence in the sport across Africa.
She added that the 2026 edition, scheduled to hold from Nov. 2 to Nov. 7 in Abuja, is expected to attract participants from over 30 countries.
Ahmed explained that the tournament would boost tourism, encourage youth participation, and enhance global visibility for Nigeria’s golf ecosystem.
She also commended Yusuf for her continued support for women’s development and golf, urging her to help mobilise broader backing for the successful hosting of the championship.
The engagement highlights growing efforts to strengthen partnerships and ensure a successful outing for Nigeria on the continental sporting stage.
