A 40-year-old Human Resources Manager, Kate Badmus, was on Friday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over allegations of fraud involving N83.2 million.
Badmus, who resides in Ikotun, is facing charges of fraud and stealing. She pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
The prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the alleged offences occurred between 2023 and February 9, 2026, at Duchess International Hospital, GRA, Ikeja.
He alleged that an internal investigation revealed that the names of non-existent employees were added to the hospital’s payroll over a three-year period, resulting in payments totalling N83.2 million.
According to the prosecution, further findings indicated that the defendant was responsible for inserting the fake staff names into the payroll system.
The alleged offences are said to contravene Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Omolara Kushanu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until April 29 for mention.
