PDP Fixes May 25, 2027 for Presidential Primary, Releases Election Timetable

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has released its timetable for the 2027 general elections, fixing May 25, 2027, for its presidential primary election.

The schedule was announced in a communiqué issued at the end of the party’s 106th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja. The communiqué was read by the National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Jungudo Mohammed.

According to the timetable, the party will submit its membership register on April 10, while primaries for State Houses of Assembly are scheduled for May 2. National Assembly primaries will follow on May 9, and governorship primaries will be conducted on May 16.

The NEC explained that the timetable aligns with the revised schedule and guidelines for the 2027 general elections released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2022.

The party said the timeline also includes provisions for resolving disputes arising from the primaries and urged all party organs and stakeholders to begin preparations and adhere strictly to the approved schedule and statutory regulations.

The NEC commended the National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC), led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, for its efforts in stabilising the party and overseeing its affairs during the transition period.

It also noted the successful conduct of the party’s ward and local government congresses, adding that state congresses were scheduled to take place across the country over the weekend. The committee expressed confidence that the congresses would be peaceful and transparent in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines.

The NEC further approved the conduct of zonal congresses to be held in two weeks as part of preparations leading to the party’s national convention.

Party leaders, stakeholders, and members were urged to remain united and disciplined while supporting all activities leading to the successful conduct of the state, zonal, and national convention processes.

The NEC also welcomed recent Court of Appeal judgments affirming the leadership and authority of the NCWC, describing the rulings as strengthening the party’s constitutional processes and internal stability.

It emphasised the need for reconciliation among party members and urged those involved in internal disputes to resolve their differences through dialogue rather than further litigation at the Supreme Court.

As part of efforts to modernise its operations, the NEC approved the expansion of the party’s electronic membership registration system to improve grassroots participation and strengthen transparency in party administration.

The party also reaffirmed preparations for its National Convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, during which a new National Working Committee (NWC) will be elected in line with the party’s constitution.

The NEC reiterated the party’s commitment to democratic values, national unity, and good governance, expressing confidence that the PDP remains a credible platform for responsible leadership and national development.
